🚫 113KM/H on a push bike? You read that right.
Earlier today, Burwood Highway Patrol and Burwood Intelligence Unit seized two illegal e-bikes during an organised operation targeting dangerously modified vehicles on our roads in Earlwood.![]()
⚠️ For clarity, speeds were recorded with the wheel lifted off the ground. While not an exact real-world measure, they demonstrate the extreme capability of these illegal modifications.![]()
🔧 One bike had pedals – but wasn’t even connected to the chain.
🚲 The other had no pedals at all.![]()
Both bikes were fitted with aftermarket battery packs and relied entirely on throttles to operate – no pedalling involved.![]()
📸 One bike reached a shocking 113km/h, the other 88km/h.![]()
👉 The riders – both just 16 years old – were each issued the following penalties:
– Drive unregistered vehicle: $844
– Unlicensed for class: $704![]()
💰 Total: $1,548 in fines per rider.![]()
🛑 These are not toys. When modified like this, they become unregistered motor vehicles, and pose a serious threat to the riders and the public. No rego. No licence. No protection.![]()
Both bikes were seized and forfeiture orders made.![]()
👨👩👧👦 Parents – we need your help.
Please speak with your children about the very real dangers of riding these illegal bikes.![]()
Lives are at risk, and serious legal consequences follow.![]()
Let’s keep our community safe.![]()
